Jackdaw Field

The Jackdaw’s Latin name is Corvus Monedula stemming from moneta – money. How appropriate for the gas field in the North Sea off Aberdeen that’s just been approved to begin extraction. A little more carbon in the changing climate is acceptable it appears.

Principles are ever flexible in capitalism, especially in the pursuit of profit. Disrupted supplies leading to increasing prices means commercial opportunity. A zero carbon target can be set aside if the market so demands.

The problem with energy, as with all commodities on sale, is its cost. Available for anybody, who can afford it that is. Otherwise rely on shivering as a way of keeping warm come winter. It make little material difference if energy is supplied by nationalised or privatised suppliers. Consumers must pay for their needs to be met or denied.

The only way price can be taken out of the equation, for gas and all commodities, so all needs can be met, is by removing the necessity for money through abolishing capitalism in favour of socialism.

Otherwise, continue to tolerate capitalism and keep paying the price.
